Shravan Month : The Ecstatic Month of Sawan Shravan month in 2013 is going to commence on 23rd of July and will last till 21st of August. Month of Shravan is the most auspicious month of the year and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In 2013 too, Shravan Maas is going to bring many opportunities to enchant the Almighty and fetch blessings. Also known as Sawan month, it is one of the twelve Hindu months that are mentioned in Hindu calendar. Shravan is the fifth month from traditional Hindu calendar, especially the one followed in North India. This month begins in late July and ends in the third week of August. Shravan month is also known as Avni in Tamil. With the beginning of the Shravan month, Sun enters in Leo. The Hindu calendar of North India calculates its month from the day falling immediately after Purnima (full Moon night). As per Hindu calendar, 2013 is Saka 2070 year. Let’s now concentrate more on Shravan month. Sawan Somvar in 2013 Mondays (Somvar in Hindi) of the month Sawan are dedicated for the worship of Lord Shiva. People visit Shiva temples on these days. All Tuesdays of Shravan month are dedicated to Goddess Gauri. People observe Mangala Gauri Vrat or Puja on these days. Now, let’s move on to other special days and festivals falling under this month. Sankashthi Ganesh Chaturthi or Chaturthi Vrat in the month of Shravan is going to be observed on 25 July 2013. Moon rise as per North India is going to be happen at 9:09pm. Sawan 2013: Krishna Paksha – Shukla Paksha Krishna Paksha, the dark half of the month is from 23 July 2013 to 6 August 2013. Shukla Paksha, the bright half of the month is from 7 August 2013 to 21 August 2013.
