Shri A. J. Uttam was born on 16/12/1923 in Hyderabad Sindh.He was one of the Sindhi Timurti who worked for the promotion of Sindhyat through out his life. The Timurti Documentary on Malhi, Kirat and Uttam was produced in year 2000 by Asha and Bina.[Daughters of Uttam and Sundri] Shri A. J. Uttam was an outstanding writer, critic, research scholar, journalist, very well known for consistent, well studied and documented opinion. In fact, he was called the walking, talking and living encyclopedia of Sindhi literature. He remained in the forefront of movement for recognition of Sindhi Language by Government and encouragement of new writers and cultural workers through Naeen Duniya Monthly, Sindhu Dhara Weekly, Sindhu Samachar and Sindhu Sansar Dailies as an Editor and Akhil Bharat Sindhi Boli Ain Sahit Sabha of which he was the Founder General Secretary from 1959 to 1963. In fact, he was the only writer who resigned and sacrificed his Bombay Govt. Gazette job in 1960 on bifurcation in Maharashtra and Gujrat instead of accepting a transfer to Gujrat in order to continue to work of Sindhi language, literature and culture unhindered. Shri A. J. Uttam (or Assandas Jethanand Uttamchandani) was born on 16th December 1923 in Hyderabad - Sind (now in Pakistan). He left this world on 3rd Jan 2005 in Mumbai. His both the daughters and wife were with him.
