Shriman Tapasviji Maharaj, the l85-year-old saint, once wept for - TopicsExpress

Shriman Tapasviji Maharaj, the l85-year-old saint, once wept for three days when a close disciple of his died. When his amazed disciples asked him what was going on, he said that no matter how great a saint may be and that people call him Enlightened, his mind may sometimes become deluded by the idea that one is separate from the world or that there is duality and that someone actually dies or is lost. Although this state is temporary in such a one, Maharaj pointed out, the grief is felt for the time that it lasts. He taught that no human, even if Liberated, is truly and continuously free from all attachments, grief, desire, and every trace of dualistic, I-ness or my-ness, thinking. Maharaj gives a beautiful analogy by comparing the situation to that of a large tree hit by a strong wind. The trunk moves a little and then regains its immobile state. The branches shake longer and are affected by lesser winds. The trunk is analogous to one who is Liberated from the basic false identities and dualistic thinking of the mind. The easily movable branches are like the workings of the normal dualistic mind. Rabbi Gabriel Cousens, MD Spiritual Nutrition Another Portals to Liberation event begins Dec 27th! ow.ly/DlVFZ
