Shui Meng ! We are with you, members of Defence of Human Rights Pakistan, conveyed this message in a demonstration in front of Parliament Building in Islamabad yesterday. Led by its Chairperson, Amina Masood Janjua, whose husband also disappeared, the event was an expression of solidarity for Shui Meng, wife of Sombath in his continued search for her husband who disappeared exactly two years ago yesterday. Press Release 16 Dec 2014 As part of an international campaign run by AFAD (Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances) for the recovery and release of Sombath Somphone, a citizen of PDR Laos, DHR Pakistan arranged a demonstration in front of Parliament House Islamabad. Chairperson Amina Masood Janjua along with many volunteers was carrying banners and placards with demands to free Sombath from incommunicado detention. Also there was a reassurance for Shui Meng, wife of Sombath, proclaiming Shui Meng ! We are with you. Sombath Somphone is a renowned social worker of Laos who was abducted by Police on 15 December 2012. Despite the evidence of this abduction in form of a CCTV footage. Laos government has, so far, failed to bring forth facts about his disappearance. AFAD and DHR along with other member organizations are campaigning for his release. DHR protesters wanted to march to the office of UN resident coordinator Mr. Timo Pakkala to hand over a memorandum in this context along with a letter to the President of Laos and a letter to the permanent representative of Laos to UN. Islamabad police, according to its usual manner, blocked the march from proceeding to UN office. After long deliberations with police, the protesters were allowed to only go as far as Parliament House building. DHR team coordinated with UN officials who were gracious enough to come to the Supreme Court building and receive the memorandum. Therefore Ms Sara came there as representative of Mr Timo Pakkala and received the memorandum. Chairperson Amina Masood Janjua handed over the memorandum and letter to Ms Sara.
