Shun Political Pressure,CJN Tells PCA The Chief Justice of Nigeria CJN, Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar yesterday charged the new President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa to shun all forms of political pressure in course of discharging her duties. The CIN gave this charge in Abuja while administering the Oath of Office on Bulkachuwa as the sixth and first female President of the court. Bulkachuwa has been acting as the President of the court for over a year until her appointment was confirme as the substantive President by President Goodluck Jonathan last month. According to the CJN, ...let mere mind you that your appointments coming at a critical time when Nigerian Judiciary is undergoing reforms, for this reason, I charge you to make all efforts to reposition the Court, and ensure that the confidence in the court is restored. You must strive with diligence to ensure that you carry out your duties with all honesty,integrity and honour. It is pertinent at this juncture to stress that the discharge of the obligations of this venerated office must be executed with utmost sense of fair play, impartiality and dedication to duty. These and nothing else are the solemn responsibilities of a judicial officer. The CJN further charged the new PCA lead by example as the office is very tasking and arduous. Bulkachuwa was also charged to ensure proper coordination of all the Justices and activities of the Court in order to foster greater efficiency in the dispensation of Justice. I therefore enjoin you, as a custodian of this sacred position to shut all forms of political pressure, and discharged your responsibilities in consonance with the oath of office you have just subscribed to, the CJN added.
