Shutdown. And the blame game continues unabated. Obama and the Senate refuse to negotiate with the House. The House refuses to back down. Who is right? First, let me repeat something I said in an earlier post – the government has operated without a budget since 2009. The House Republicans have passed a budget every year since taking the majority. The Senate, on the other hand, hasn’t passed a budget since 2009. If the two houses don’t come together each year to pound out a budget, the present circus will be repeated again and again. Second, Obama made a purely political decision to exempt employers from the Obamacare mandate until 2015 while giving waivers to his cronies and giving Congress taxpayer dollars to pay for their insurance. The Republicans are stating the obvious – if Obamacare is so great, there should be no delay in the employer mandate, no waivers, and no special consideration for Congress. That is the basis of the House CR – delay the individual mandate and treat everyone the same. No special treatment for anyone. The Senate and Obama won’t budge. It’s obvious to me where to lay the blame for the shutdown. By the way, here are the House Republicans who voted against the CR: Reps. Tom Massie (Ky.), Peter King (N.Y.), Steve King (Iowa), Mike Rogers (Ala.), Paul Broun (Ga.), Phil Gingrey (Ga.), Joe Barton (Texas), Louie Gohmert (Texas), Kay Granger (Texas), Charlie Dent (Pa.), Rick Crawford (Ark.) and Michele Bachmann (Minn.). Paul Broun is my representative. You can bet he’ll be getting an earful from me. Here are the House Dems who voted FOR the House CR: Reps.
