Imam Ibn Hajar Asaslani records in his commentary of Sahih Bukhari namely Fathul Bari, Kitab al-Maghazi: “Hind and other women went out to distort the deads, cutting the ears and the noses, till she made a necklace of them (ears & noses) then Hind gave her necklaces to Wahshi as a reward for killing Hamza and Hind ripped (Hamzas body) to get Hamzas liver, then she chew it but couldn’t eat it so she spat it” Fathul Bari, Volume 11 page 375 (from Islamport) Fathul Bari, Kitab al-Maghazi (from al-eman) Same has been recorded by Allamah Badruddin al-Aini in his commentary of Sahih Bukhari, Umma datul Qari, Volume 17 page 143. Imam of Ahle Aunnah Ibn Habban has also recorded in his book of authentic narrators ‘Al-Thuqat’ Volume 1 page 231: “Hind and other women who were with her distorted the deads amongst the companions of Prophet [s], cutting their ears and noses, till she made a necklaces of ears and noses of Muslims, then she peirced (Hamzaz body) ) to get his liver, then she chew it but couldn’t eat it so she spat it.” Imam Qurtubi in his commentary of Holy Quran has also stated: “Ibn Ishaq said: Hind pierced (Hamzas body) for his liver, then she chew it but couldn’t eat it so she spit it” Tafseer Qurtubi, Surah 3 verse 122 Allamah Ibn Atheer Jazari records: “And the polytheist women, Hinda and her mates began to cut the nose and ears of the Muslims, pierced their stomach and Hinda pierced the stomach of Hamzah [ra], took out his liver and started to chew it but she couldn’t swallow it thus she spat that out.” Asadul Ghaba fi Marifat al-Sahabah, Volume 3 page 48, under the topic: Hamzah bin Abdul Muttalib Ibn Atheer in his another book ‘Tarikh Kamil’ Volume 2 page 160 has similarly recorded: “Hind and the women went out to distort the deads, Hind made bracelets and necklaces of the ears and the noses of the men, then she gave the bracelets and necklaces to Wahshi, then she ripped (Hamzas body) to get his liver, then she chew it but couldn’t eat it so she spat it.” Tareekh Kamil, Volume 1, Dhikr Ghazwa Uhud (from al-eman) The traits of animal possessed by Muawiya’s mother have also been recorded by Imam Ibn Abdul Barr: “On the day of Uhud, Hinda bint Utbah and her friends began to cut the nose and ears of the martyrs, pierced their stomach except Hinzalah because her father was a amongst the polytheists and Hinda pierced the stomach of Hamzah then she took out his liver and started to chew it and then threw it” Al-Istiab fi Isma al-Ashaab, Volume 1 page 274 The incident has also been recorded by one of the staunch lover of Muawiyah namely Dahabi in his famed work Tarikh al-Islam, Volume 2 page 205: “Hind and other women went out to distort the deads, Hind made bracelets and neckleces of the ears and the noses of the men, then she gave the bracelets and necklaces to Wahshi, then she peirced (Hamzas body) to get his liver, then she chew it but couldn’t eat it so she spat it.” We read in Al-Mukhtasar fi Tarikh al-Bashar, Volume 1 page 87 by Allamah Abu al-Fida: “Hind and the women who were with her distort the deads of the messenger of Allah companions and cutting their ears and noses, till she made a necklace comprised of the ears and noses, then she peirced (Hamzaz body) ) to get his liver, then she chew it but couldn’t eat it so she spat it.”Tareekh Abul Fida, Volume 1 page 87 Shaykh Shuaib al-Arnaoot in his column of Imam Dhahabi’s book, Siar alam al-Nubala, Volume 3 page 141 states: “The son of livers eater: Muawiya, because his mother Hind peirced (Hamzas body) to get Hamzas [ra] liver after his martyrdom in the battle of Uhud , then she chew it but couldn’t eat it so she spat it.” While in the margin of Siar alam al-Nubala, Volume 1, page 180, Seikh Shuaib al-Arnaoot assured the incedent to be authentic. Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal records in Musnad Ahmed bin Hanbal, Volume 1 page 463 Hadith 4182: Ibn Masoud narrated: “... They (Muslims) saw Hamza’s stomach been ripped and Hind took his liver and chew it but she couldn’t eat it, then the Messenger of Allah asked: ‘Did she eat some thing from it?’. They (Muslims) answered: ‘No’. He [s] said: ‘God would not allow a part of Hamza to enter the hell’. Then the prophet placed Hamza before of Him [s] and prayed over him…..”Musnad Ahmed bin Hanbal, Volume 1 page 463 Hadith 4182 In their respective margins of Musnad Ahmed bin Hanbal, Shaykh Shuaib al-Arnaoot decalred this tradition ‘Hasan’ while Shakyh Ahmed Muhammad Shakir (d. 1958) decalred it ‘Sahih’.
