Si I enclose a picture of a humble abode I have constructed on an island in the South China Sea. Its a small working fishing village and I am the only European and pink man here. I came here for several reasons. All of them to do with lifes great balancing act of finding the serenity and chi for me to be able to write, dive. snorkel and eat fresh mango. Usually it is an idyllic existence which allows me all my requests and even a bit of mischief which my age group demands. The last 5 weeks has given me an earthquake registering 7.6 on the Richter scale and the biggest typhoon ever recorded , romantically called Yolanda. So sit here now dressed in shorts, wellies and a life jacket, writing by candle light and Id offer you all a cup of tea but I have no water and my pencils just broke and splintered pieces of my friends boat are skipping past in the wind. But I have to say its a lot of fun at my old age instead of sitting in the corner of a pub in Europe before getting mugged by a hoodie in the way home. ;) And I wouldnt change a thing. [apart from missing a piece of chocolate cake in the fridge ! :( ] and waiting to be told that the local council have placed a hosepipe ban. The Philippine authorities , instead of inspecting my abode just appeared after the typhoon and gave it a tick in the box, its hard to fault their logic. Now I wont tell you the name of the village cos Id have to kill you all, but strange how never know where you will end up in this world and what cards you have left to play your hand. Iv e always been a bit of a gambler , many times just betting on the blind, and as the old song says you gotta know when to hold em and know when to fold em. Now wheres my pencil sharpener ? ;)
