Sierra Vista area birders: This April, theres a FREE Birding by Ear class led by local birding expert Rick Romea. Here are a few of the details: BIRDING BY EAR Class: Ever wonder what the field guides mean when they say: ‘a noisy twittering call ’ or ‘a thin whistle’? Or how about ‘dry chip’ or ‘liquid trill’? In this class, we will start to develop a common language to describe bird vocalizations, using examples from common Southwest birds. We will learn to characterize bird sounds as to common types and sound qualities. Then we will introduce some of the tricks that take the mystery out of birding by ear. The class consists of four 1½-hour evening classes and two 3-hour field trips, to practice birding-by-ear in the field. The classes are as follows: Class 1: Introduction to Birding by Ear.
