Also called ‘Kangan’ or ‘Choodi’ in Hindi, ‘Valayal’ in Tamil, ‘Gaaju’ in Telugu, ‘Bale’ in Kannada, bangles are part of traditional Indian jewellery. Bangles can be described as a type of rigid bracelet and is usually worn in pairs. They come in a huge variety of materials ranging from colourful plastic, glass, lac, sea shells to stone, wood & metals like steel, copper, silver,gold and platinum. Bangles may be plain or intricately deigned or with attractive embellishments and hold great value in Hinduism. For married women, bangles are a considered a significant sign of their marriage and thus they must always wear bangles around their wrists.
