Significant University Activities for the month of June 2014: Mrs.Vidya Stokes, Irrigation and Public Health Minister, Govt. of H.P inaugurated chief scientists’ meet on water management and ground water utilization at CSK H.P. Agriculture University on 24 June.The minister emphasized on the judicious use of water for maximizing crop production. Dr.K.K.Katoch, Vice-Chancellor, said that it was imperative to maintain and rejuvenate traditional water resources. Mr.Yadvinder Goma, M.L.A, Jaisinghpur Vidhan Sabha constituency, Dr.Ashwani Kumar, Director, Directorate of Water Management, Bhubneshwar, Dr.S.P.Sharma, Director of Research , Dr.V.K.Suri, Chief Scientist and Dr.S.P.Dixit, Head of Soil Science Department, also expressed their views. The meet concluded on 27 June. CSK H.P. Agriculture University organized a Kisan Mela at Killar(Pangi) in Chamba district on 28 July. Chief Guest Shrir Thakur Singh Bharmouri, Forest Minister, Govt. of H.P. asked the University to explore the possibility to open extension centre at Pangi so that the local farmers may get their crop and animal husbandry related problems solved at their doorstep. Dr.K.K.Katoch, Vice-Chancellor, advised the farmers to grow university approved fodder crops. Dr.S.Prabhu Kumar, Zonal Project Director, Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Dr.N.K.Pathania, Director of Extension Education, also attended the Mela alongwith a team of Univeristy scientists. Smt. Vidya Stokes, Irrigation and Public Health Minister, Govt. of H.P. visited Advanced Multidisciplinary Vety. Services & Farmers’ Capacity Building Centre & various clinical departments of Dr.GCN COVAS on 24 June. Dr.K.K.Katoch, Vice-Chancellor and Dr.N.K.Pathania, Director Extension Education, participated and deliberated in 23rd meeting of ICAR Regional Committee on 18-19 June at Dehradoon. A special issue of the University farm magazine ‘Parvatiya Khetibari’ focusing on the theme of protected cultivation was released by the Chief Guest. Around 100 copies were distributed to the participants who appreciated the magazine. Research: Five research project proposals viz. (i) Climate Change Impact on Productivity of Food Grain and Plantation Crops within the umbrella project of Mountain Ecosystem Processes and Services in North Western Himalayas” amounting to Rs. 39.0 lakh for a period of four years with Dr. Ranbir Singh Rana, Sr. Scientist (Agronomy, COBS,CSKHPKV, Palampur as P.I of the project, (ii) “Strengthening of Research Infrastructure, Demonstration of Technologies and Training of Farmers of Tribal Area of Spiti (HP)” amounting to Rs. 8.30 lakh with Dr. Sukhdev Singh Paliyal, Sr. Scientist (Soils) & Scientist Incharge, RSS, Lari as P.I. of the project; (iii) “Introduction and Evaluation of Improved Russian Seabuckthorn Varieties in Lahaul-Spiti, cold deserts of Himachal Pradesh” amounting to Rs. 38.36 lakh with Dr. Virendra Singh, Professor, Deptt. of Biology and Environmental Sciences, COBS as P.I. of the project, (iv) “ Evaluation of PIM 014 20% wp against red spider mites on tea crop” amounting to Rs. 6.07 lakh with Dr. D.C. Sharma, Principal Scientist & Head, Deptt. of Entomology as P.I. of the project and (v) “ Bioefficacy and Phytotoxicity of ready mixture of flubendiamide 24% + thiacloprid 24%-48SC (w/v) against insect-pest complex in rice” amounting to Rs. 2.70 lakh with Dr. P.K. Sharma, Associate Professor, Deptt. of Entomology as P.I. of the project have been sanctioned to this University by the Director, IIRS, Indian Space Research Organisation, Dehradun, Project Director, Desert Devlopment Project, Spiti Kaza(HP), DST, New Delhi ,PI Industries Ltd. and Bayer Crop Science Ltd., Ludhiana, respectively. Extension Education: The Directorate of Extension Education and KVKs organized 54 training programmes on various aspects which were attended by 1676 farmers. 66 Telephone help lines were attended by the ATIC. 343 farmers visited the University and KVKs for technical guidance . Scientific Advisory Committee meetings of KVKs Sirmour and Lahaul & Spiti were organized on 23 June and 27 June respectively. 13 front line demonstrations and 11 on farm trials were conducted by KVKs. Two days workshop on AICRP on Long Term Fertilizer Experiments was organised by the Department of Soil Science in collaboration with ICAR, New Delhi on 2-3, June. Dr. Ranjodh Singh, former Director of Research inaugurated the workshop with the participation of Dr. S.K Chaudhari, ADG (NRM), Dr. A.K Patra, Director,IISS, Bhopal, Dr. Muneshwar Singh, Project Coordinator , Dr. Pardip Dey, Project Coordinator (STCR), Dr. A.K Shukla, Project Coordinator (Micronutrients), Dr. C.H. Sriniwasrao, Project Coordinator (Dryland Agriculture) and scientists from eighteen centres . Pharmacist training under RKVY was conducted by the Deptt. of Vety Gynaecology from 6 June to 11 June.The department also conducted special infertility camps at Chamba, Bharmour, Holi and surrounding villages from 5 June to 11 June. 565 clinical cases were diagnosed & treated in the veterinary clinic and 245 clinical & other samples were also analyzed . Miscellaneous: Director Extension Education participated in brainstorming session on “Take it the farmer - the farmers’ right through awareness” under PPV & FRA, Union Ministry of Agriculutre on 24 June at N. Delhi. Department of Seed Science & Technology produced 300 q breeder seed of wheat,30 q breeder seed of oats and 40 Kg breeder seed of Gobhi Sarson. Seven days NSS camp of 28 students was organized at Banuri village from 23-29 June. Combined Entrance Test for B.V.Sc. & AH and B.Sc.(Agriculture) was conducted on 8 June. Fourteen students of B.Sc.(Hospitality & Hotel Management) degree programme have got placements in five star hotels. Seven students of B.Tech (Food Science & Technology) degree programme have been placed in reputed companies Four students of BSc. (Hons. Home Science) and one student of B.Tech. (Food Science & Technology) programmes who qualified JRF examination have got admission to PG programme at different universities/institutions of repute. Finance: Dr GCN COVAS generated an income of Rs.27,99,730 only; College of Agriculture generated an income of Rs.16,99,080 and the Directorate of Extension Education generated an income of Rs. 77,244 only. The funds received from various funding agencies were fully utilized for payment of salary, wages and retirement benefits etc. .
