Signing Depending on belief, the mind - or spirit, or soul - - TopicsExpress

Signing Depending on belief, the mind - or spirit, or soul - might be immortal, invulnerable, and invincible. A newborn baby, unknowing of religion, shows exactly this: It doesnt know about death, it doesnt realize it can get hurt - and cries heartbreakingly if it does -, and the idea that someone would hurt it on purpose, is completely foreign to a very young child. Maybe we should put more effort into giving maximum affection and attention to the newborns, instead of putting them away in their bed and waiting to speak seriously with them until they are years old. It is a known fact, young children understand much more than we are aware of; just because they cannot speak yet or have an insufficient vocabulary, doesnt mean they do not understand what is being said to them. A young child learning sign language is for example able to express difficult abstract concepts when it is only one year old; something a child only learning to speak can never show. Some research has shown, children learning sign language together with spoken language are significantly more intelligent when tested at eight years old. Besides, the signing stimulates the left hemisphere, while spoken language stimulates the right hemisphere; therefore, it is considered good for the childs brain development. And signing is not only a way to express emotions at a very young age, but also a better way, diminishing the childs frustrations. It would be interesting to see, how a baby could develop when from birth on it learns to cope with living in a mortal, vulnerable and vincible body, by explanation, reassurance and affection. Using sign language is a great tool in helping doing so.
