Silence, a Disappearing American Need: Sometimes we like to - TopicsExpress

Silence, a Disappearing American Need: Sometimes we like to lose ourselves in space and in silence, and when we find a place that provides such conditions, we tend to safeguard our find with as much passion as we would a favorite fishing hole. Look hard at this photo and you’ll see the splash of silver created by our Airstream among all the cholla. Its lost in the sounds of silence. Camping in isolations doesn’t mean we’re antisocial, rather it means that we’re like so many others who simply need a break from honking horns, barking dogs, screaming children, supercilious people, snarled traffic, and RV campground overloads. We found Nirvana a few days ago, but now we must continue north, though we are doing so with some reluctance. At the moment we’re at Lake Meade and confronting what seems to be more of the American norm just mentioned. Nevertheless, there are a great number of interesting features here and we’ll be describing some of the attractions in the next few days. Notice, however, that I have not divulged our secret, and hope we will one day be able to find it again. I think we need to know such places exist even if we never have time to go there.
