Silver update: Poor old boy. He was recovering very well from the pit bul attack injuries, up until about a week ago when an odd blob appeared on his most injured paw. Went to the vet for his post-surgery check and she came back into the consultation room with him with a very sad look on her face. She explained that probably due to the stress his body has been under recovering, cancerous cells went out of control and the mass on his paw was a tumor. She put him back on anti-inflammatory meds with the outside chance that it would respond and diminish. Three days later it was no smaller and probably a little bigger (the size of a large grape). We made the decision to have it removed - another general anesthesia procedure, took him in at 7:30 a.m.and picked him up at 5:30 p.m. As it was two weeks ago, he cried all night trying to walk off and shake the effects of the anesthesia. Hes on antibiotics again, pain meds and the miracle doggy equivalent of Motrin. Finally ate a little bit and is crashed out hard at my feet. Two more weeks wearing the cone. I didnt think hed be very happy with me after taking him back to the place where pain happens, but he hasnt left my side. I think he knows we are trying to help him live out his days pain free and able to walk. The good news is that she didnt have to remove his thumb, the lesion hadnt gotten into bone. Made the decision to not biopsy, will not put him through chemo or radiation therapies if the cancer is anywhere else. Hes been through enough.
