Silverstone TRAX Time Attack 2014 We visited Surrey rolling - TopicsExpress

Silverstone TRAX Time Attack 2014 We visited Surrey rolling road for a health check last Thursday and all that was left on the must do list was to change the spark plugs, we were absolutely thrilled about the results achieved with our new Nimbus Motorsport supplied Torco race fuel and couldnt wait to see how the fuel would help us on track at Time Attack. Waking up Sunday morning to a nice crisp dry track was a welcome change to the conditions we have become accustomed to throughout this years competition. An early start and the plugs were changed but the car didnt sound quite right, the decision was made to do a few laps and see if it would clear (racing 8 plugs are known to be temperamental at times). A couple of laps in and it became obvious the problem wasnt going away so back to the pits for some more investigation. After what seemed like only a few minutes we were back out for practice and the car felt much better, a couple of laps in the bag but the misfire was still there and the car was under steering quite badly. Next a boost hose popped off and we decided to head back to the pits. All hands on deck once again and the car was in bits, plugs changed for another new set and whilst we were at it we swapped to our Dunlop tyres kindly provided by Marc Kemp of Panic Link Motorsport. Everything looked good so with seconds to spare the car wouldnt start, after some advice from Andy Forrest and some quick work by Steven Darley we joined the back of the queue for Qualifying. After one out lap the misfire was back but much worse, back to the pits and it was decided to salvage a lap, so after the slowest lap we have ever recoded round Silverstone it was back into the pits yet again for some more head scratching. Just as David Coe appeared behind me in the paddock I discovered a broken wire to one of the coil packs, thanks for bringing the good luck Dave. Once again cutting it fine and joining the back of the queue out onto track it was nervous times, having not put in one decent lap all day and still not 100% confident that the car would work was not what we had hoped for. The out lap felt ok and the misfire had gone however the just fitted splitter was making an almighty racket. Was our luck ever going to change? Back to the pits and the splitter was promptly removed and I told Simon JGM that the car felt slow, a quick check and we had another boost leak giving us only 0.5 bar of boost. A quick spanner check and out we went with the clock ticking. Wow the car was flying, full boost and no misfire on our new Torco fuel coupled with the change in tyres totally transformed the car. A couple of quick laps and it was time for a flyer, building speed down the pit straight ready to go for it and POP off comes the boost hose. Trundling back to the pits incredibly frustrated about what could have been I open the door and start shouting about the boost hose only to be told the session was over!!!!! Just as the disappointment/rage/frustration was building Steven Darley raised a finger telling me we had won. The feeling that came over me was incredible, I was in total shock and overjoyed. We had done it, our first win in Time Attack. Back to the scrutineering bay we were greeted by Jason Bird and a celebratory beverage. Massive thanks to the team and everyone that came to support us. Congratulations to Jason Bird and David Coe on their podiums and all the other class winners. Special thanks to Nimbus Motorsport and Torco Race Fuels for providing us with such a fantastic Fuel.
