Similar to thoughts that plagued the TR4 and its live axle rear - TopicsExpress

Similar to thoughts that plagued the TR4 and its live axle rear end, MG had investigated replacing the dated suspension in favor of an alternative that was more modern and would improve handling and better help the car compete in the marketplace. Attempts to adapt a Hydrolastic suspension (BMC was moving in this direction across the model range) in the MGB were unsuccessful and the decision was made to start with a whole new layout. The EX234 Project would take form in 1964 with a body designed by Pinin Farina that was intended to replace both the B and the Midget. With a clean body that contained hints of the Alfa Romeo Spider and a Kamm-style rear end it was decidedly more modern than anything that had entered into production at Abingdon before. Ultimately, high sales of the B and Midget in North America removed most of the impetus behind the car and the BL merger hammered the final nail into this delightful roadsters coffin.
