Similarities between the the defense of the need of humans to eat - TopicsExpress

Similarities between the the defense of the need of humans to eat meat and of veracity of religious truth: Both make quite large claims and neither much like having those claims questioned or scrutinized. Oddly, in the defence of both these baseless worldviews, theres always an inverse relationship between the claims that are made and the evidence on offer. Evidence is firmly on the other side of both of these arguments and its so amusing to watch the same pattern of behaviours from both sets of apologists: arrogant refusal to check evidence; repetition of pre-scripted nonsensical lines; employment of all manner of logical fallacies such as the argument from antiquity, the argument from incredulity and the argument from ignorance; infinite regression from - and avoidance of the central point; and finally offence-taking, anger and storming off. A few of the pre-scripted lines for your amusement: Evolution is just a theory. If people came from monkeys, why are there still monkeys? The eye couldnt have just formed by accident. The universe is fine-tuned for humans. A creation is evidence for a creator. Evolution is a religion. But what about the second law of thermodynamics? God planted the fossils to test our faith. ... and... What about the cruelty that went into your vegetables? Where do you get your protein? Veganism is a religion. What about the bugs you squish with your windshield? What about the rodents that are squished by the plough? If we all ate plants there wouldnt be enough food to go around. But lions/cheetahs/tigers eat meat! We are “meant” to eat meat! But if everyone went vegan, farmed-animal species would go extinct! I cant prevent all cruelty in the world so Ill go on being cruel. I have nothing against vegans, you shouldn’t have a problem with me paying for animals to be killed.. And my favorite of all... What about these scary canine teeth? ... and finally, when the argument has been lost and the butthurting is at its peak (these are common to both carnists and creationists)...: Im offended. I respect your non-harming lifestyle - you should have respect for my harm-causing one. Youre rude. (Usually misspelt as your rude - were not dealing with geniuses here after all.)
