Simon Carden retired from football the other day. A lot of you wont know Simon Carden as you are vile JCLs who are watering down our support with your giddy inanity. But thats fine. Were a broad church and giddy inanity is one of the cornerstones the club was built on. I once wore a bar scarf to the match, for instance. WOOOWEEE. That was out there, man. Mad times. But this isnt about me. This is about our greatest ever player, Simon Carden. He scored lots of goals, kicked lots of people, smoked lots of cigarettes, and drank lots of cans. You can see him celebrating his fifth goal against Cassy Gabs by sparking up a B&H silver behind the net and going twosies with a ball girl. You couldnt get away with that these days, of course, but in the NWCL you could basically do whatever you wanted, including stamping on goalkeepers head without fear of refereeing intervention. Itd be nice to mark Cardens retirement at Marine in some way. Maybe we could do a minutes smoke in the 8th minute? Or all run on to the pitch and stud the opposition keeper in the chest then look all innocent and get away with it? I dunno, really. I probably wont be there as Ive got work at 8pm Saturday, and Im not sure if Ill get back in time. Im sure youll think of something. Youre dead good like that.
