Simple explanation why humans are predisposed to pay more attention to negative news as opposed to the positive variety. In a nutshell it is because we have over the eons been evolutionary adapted for cognitive biases that elevate uncertainty over events that can have disastrous consequences for our well being to a level of primary importance in our lives. Consequently positive events take a back seat in our cognitive frame of reference.
