Simuusa Unmoved by Farmers Shunning FRA Agriculture minister Wilbur Simuusa says he was not worried that some farmers were shunning selling their maize to the Food Reserve Agency due to delayed payments and also an uncompetitive price. Simuusa said that government would still meet its 500, 000 metric tonnes target of buying maize despite some farmers shunning FRA. He said that there was too much maize on the market that government could not be weighed down by the farmers not selling to government. Simuusa said that farmers were free to sell their maize to anybody who was willing to pay them at a price of their choice. Some farmers are reluctant to sell their maize to government on account of the K65 floor price and also the length of time it takes to be paid their money once they have supplied the maize. It is not uncommon for farmers to spend nights at depots guarding their maize before being attended to while getting the money also involves spending days checking at the commissioned banks which sometimes takes weeks. zambiareports/2014/08/13/simuusa-unmoved-farmers-shunning-fra/
