Since 1993, Bay Ridge has been attached to Staten Island to form our Congressional District. Every person elected since then has been from Staten Island, effectively leaving us without representation in Congress. Since Staten Island has about 4 times the population of Bay Ridge. It would be nearly impossible for a Bay Ridgite to win a congressional seat. A small portion of the northern part of the neighborhood was sliced off and put into Jerry Nadlers district, leaving us even more impotent. Over the years, SI has gotten BILLIONS of federal dollars to rehabilitate the landfill. What has Bay Ridge received? Bupkus... we cant even get the Gowanus fixed. Staten Islanders pay 4 dollars less then we do for the bridge and yet more Ridgites lost their homes when the bridge was being built. Andrew Cuomo promised to take a look at re-districting when he ran for office, but all they did was change the number from the 13th to the 11th. In truth, there isnt much we can do at this time, except make a lot of noise and force whoever is running to come to Bay Ridge and address OUR issues.
