Since 1999, Nigeria has been a democracy. But democracy, and by extension, the quality of governance, is difficult to deepen without higher economic growth. Although there has been an increase in per capita income from $970 in 1999 to $2600 in 2012, growth has not been broad enough to lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty. Yet, rapid improvement in the quality of economic cum administrative governance is absolutely critical for unleashing investment and growth.-Thisday On Sunday, 2nd February, 2014.
