Since 2010 at UNCG, undergraduate enrollment is down 5%, graduate enrollment is down 12%, tuition is up 21%, and fees are up a whopping 42%. Since 2008, UNCG has had a net gain of 33.3 administrative and staff position while the net gain in faculty positions has been held to 5.14. We are a great institution, offering life enabling opportunities for our students. But we cannot continue these trends. Chancellor Brady has acknowledged that one of the primary reason our students drop out is that they can no longer afford the cost. A plan is in place across the UNC system to hold tuition at the current level. UNCG local administration should likewise stop increasing fees especially in the areas of athletics and facilities which will cost our students over $20 million this year. We definitely don’t need a $91 million recreation center. What we need is a different approach; one that would assure sufficient faculty to attract, retain and serve our students.
