Since Christians last palate surgery, we have just seen miracle after miracle! Do you guys remember the status update I did a few days ago about Christian using the words Pizza Astronaut to tell me what Elmo song he wanted to listen to? If you dont, you can look through our page and find it just a few posts down. Anyways, this was a huge break through for Christian, and I KNEW it would be! Christian is so smart. Because of his vision impairment it takes him longer to catch on to things sometimes (Imagine trying to learn something new without the ability to see it, or have someone show you how to do/use it). But when it finally clicks with him, he GETS it! The Elmo song was that click we have been working for! Christian has always been a talker. He has always just talked away and repeated anything and everything, but very rarely would he ever say anything meaningful without being prompted. In fact, he has never even called out for me by saying mama! He has always just cried when he needs me. He knows my name is mama and will touch my face when I ask him Where is mama?, but he never made the connection to actually say it to get my attention. But after the Pizza Astronaut incident, Christian has GOT IT!!! He has been asking for help when he needs it, he has told me Hi, mama! and has been telling me which song he wants to listen to (We listen to TONS of youtube videos, mostly about Elmo, because he loves it) without anyone asking him to. On his own, he has picked out names for some of the videos he likes and will tell me what he wants to hear without me even asking. He will say cookie monster or Elmo Song or This is a song about Elmo or Elmos Ducks, and so many more! This was just a HUGE step for Christian and I know that his palate repair has been a huge help in this process so that now we can understand is words better and he can actually pronounce words better!
