Since Civilian Review of the police department is a hot and current topic, John Chasnoff of ACLU of Eastern Missouri has been nice enough to give us an interview about the Town Hall meeting that is happening Wednesday evening (25 Sept). Enjoy. PWLSTL: Why is it important that people attend the Town Hall meeting on Wednesday? John: St. Louis is one of the last major cities without civilian review of the police. We need to develop a city political climate of open citizen participation, and oversight of the police is a major step in that direction. PWLSTL: What will be discussed? John: We’ll be talking about the real need to have a police department that’s responsive to the people and the ways that each of us can support the creation of a civilian review board in the next few months. PWLSTL: When I go, how can I show support of Civilian Review? John: Just showing up is half the battle—that sends a message that folks care about the issue. But we’ll also be sharing info on contacting alderpersons and the chief of police to let them know how you feel. PWLSTL: When and where is it? John: The Town Hall is Wednesday, September 25. It’s at 7pm at the Schlafly Library, Euclid and Lindell Blvd. Thank you as always John.
