Since December is the peak time of the year for home candle fires, holiday fire safety tips 19 through 26 surround candles: 19) Use candles with extreme caution when children are present, and always keep matches and lighters away from children. 20) Keep candles at least 12” away from anything that can burn. 21) Use candle holders that are sturdy and won’t easily tip over. Place on sturdy, uncluttered surfaces. 22) Don’t burn a candle all the way down. Put it out before it gets too close to the holder/container. 23) Avoid the use of candles in the bedroom and other areas where people may fall asleep. 24) Do not leave candles unattended. Blow out all candles when you leave the room or go to bed. 25) Use flashlights and other battery-powered lighting during a power outage; not candles. 26) Do not use candles if oxygen is used in the home.
