Since Ebola first entered the United States, I have called for travel restrictions to be put in place -- specifically, that we restrict travel from all areas affected by the Ebola virus until we receive confirmation that the traveler in question has completed a 21- day quarantine period. The recent case of Dr. Spencer in New York reinforces the argument for this approach. Dr. Spencer entered the U.S. through one of the 5 required international airports designated in the recently-imposed travel restrictions put in place by the Department of Homeland Security—yet this disease was still undetected. We MUST implement stronger travel restrictions to protect the American people from this disease.
