Since I am awake at 3:00 a.m. I want to reflect an opinion on the Ray Rice incident. No I am not speaking on Domestic Violence as that is a no brainer. I want to speak specifically to the fact that he was given a 2 game suspension as his penalty and then weeks later that is reversed and indefinite suspension is issued. Whether you agree or disagree that a 2 day suspension was sufficient or not is not relevant to this post. My issue is the fact a penalty was issued and then Reversed and a more severe penalty issued for the same event. Where is the Players Union on this? Once an agreement is reached in writing or verbal you have a binding settlement of the parties. Under contractual law a contract of the parties is implied when one part makes an offer and the other party accepts the offer. In this case the contract reached was a 2 game suspension. I am speaking from my knowledge in Collective Bargaining and it appears to me that this reversal of an implied settlement is a breech of that settlement. I would not be surprised if the Rice family consults with attorneys and this ends up in the court system. I would like to see an opinion from the Players Union. Has anyone heard from them?
