Since I am no longer riding, and my arthritic right knee rules out walking for exercise currently, I was planning to go to LA Fitness this evening and work out. But when I picked up Michelle this afternoon, the weather was so lovely (brightly sunny and mid-seventies) that I felt I had to go to the pool for the first time this year. I spent over two hours there, divided between reading, jogging in place in the pool, and resting my eyes a little. :) My current reading is a book my brother gave me for my birthday - Lone Survivor, the story of Marcus Luttrell, a Navy SEAL, his training, and his heroic service (and that of his team) in Afghanistan in 2005, fighting the Taliban. It is a gripping read, and, though I tend toward the liberal side of things politically, and the author makes it clear that he has no patience for liberals, I am very glad to be reading it. (After he gave it to me, my brother said quietly, and rather sheepishly, Its got some bad language in it. :) ) Right now, the days when Michelle nicknamed me Pool Bum (about a decade ago) because I was only working mornings and then spent about two hours every day at the pool reading—those days seem very long ago and far away.
