Since I arrived in Korea, Ive been meticulously sorting my recyclables, food trash, and un-recyclable trash as per the Korean law...but Ive been wondering....what do they do with the mounds of non recyclable trash???.........Well, I finally got curious enough to investigate. They take the trash, BURN it, use it for heat and energy and then spread the ashes in landfills so that it can decompose much, much faster! According to this article, because Korea made sorting trash mandatory, it has created many jobs and reduced the average waste per person. Korea recycles 100% of its recyclable waste!!! Im so impressed!!! I really wish the US would implement a system like this!!!! recyclingtoday/rtge1112-municipal-recycling-seoul.aspx
