Since I have posted some good shooting results I guess I should post a bad one. What a Friday/Saturday this turned out to be. Friday I headed to Gretna, VA Friday for a Schuetzen match. Four hour drive and I got there just fine but as soon as I opened the back of the Jeep everything started heading South. (1) Dropped my wind pointer and stepped down on it and snapped it in half. Ended up taking the ribbon off the pointer and attaching it directly to the ground shaft. Worked okay since we had a tail wind Friday and a head wind Saturday. (2) Forgot the head for the spotting scope that mounts the scope to the clamp shaft. Ended up taking apart my backup tripod and was able to use it on the clamp. (3) Forgot my high leg stool that allows me to sit higher at the bench. This helps when shooting off hand to be able to sit between shots and not drop down into a normal chair. Borrowed one from the Schuetzenmeister. (4) Shot my first two targets with no issues, other than shaking like a dog passing a peach seed. Scores were going up so I was feeling okay. 8 shots into my third target when WHAM. Case separation. We got the stuck portion out of the chamber and I finished the target. Score was my highest yet. (5) Decided to change over to the .38-55 barrel and play with that. Low and behold, I brought the wrong ammo. Had 50 rounds of .45-70. First time for everything. They do not make a hammer big enough to make .45-70 fit into a .38-55 chamber. Saturday; a new day dawns and a new set of challenges. (1) Back to the .25-20 and first three shots are good, (must have passed that seed). 4th shot low left. Real LOW!...Another case separation. WTH! Got that cleaned up and back to shooting. (2) Palm rest a little loose so I back off the lock nuts, give it a slight twist to tighten it and snap the mount! That sucks! (3) Start back on the target, next three shots are no where to be found. WTH! Next shot off the paper at bottom of frame. Check all the screws and everything tight. Scope is tight. WTH!! Run a dry tight patch thru the barrel and no lead specks. Next shot no where to be found. Time to quit and call it good. Pack up and head back. No issues on the way home. Scores were no where near my best but I did manage to place 2nd so not a total bust.
