Since I out-grew the buy-sell-trade fever of my teens and early - TopicsExpress

Since I out-grew the buy-sell-trade fever of my teens and early 20s, I have rarely sold a gun. Consequently, Ive come to realize that I own way more guns than I will ever have time to shoot. In fact, if I set up a shooting schedule, Id have to live a good long time before I shot them all. And there are some of them that I really dont even care to shoot. For the last year or so Ive been thinking that I need to downsize my gun collection. The problem is, whenever I decide to let one go, I suddenly turn into Golem with his ring...My Precious...and I just cant do it. But, the first step to wellness is admitting you have a problem, and over the last few months Ive been working my head around the fact that somethings got to go...the hard thing is deciding what. I pretty much decided that I wont part with any of the cap and ball revolvers. They dont bring much on the used market, and I like shooting them too much. Likewise my collection of Cold War military pistols...they stay. And my double action revolvers are staying. The Colts have sentimental value, and real collectors value. Getting rid of them would be as stupid as selling gold. The S&W and the Ruger are working guns...they need to stay. My Colt Single Action Armies will stay...see DA Colts above for the reason. But I have lots of Non-Colt, Italian made cowboy guns. I have pairs of most everything...one of each is enough...I think a lot of those can go. In the rifle area, I rarely shoot my nineteenth century single shot rifles...though they are cool. And I love my lever actions, but how many of them do I need? Cool as it is, I cant remember the last time I shot my Winchester 1886. I think that herd needs thinning too. So, Im getting things clear in my mind...the question now is whether I have the will power to follow through...My Precious... LOL
