Since Im not the police chief, maybe I can say this: Dear PGH - TopicsExpress

Since Im not the police chief, maybe I can say this: Dear PGH Police: the fact that some of you are upset and accusing Mr. McLay of lumping you all under the title of racist- based on a very obtuse sign held during a parade by your chief in a time when the media and public are clamoring about race equality and justice for police brutality- suggests to me that some of you are very ignorant, and along with ignorance often comes racism. I do not need the media or anyone else to tell me that there are racist officers. Do you? I dont need the media or anyone else to tell me that there are men and women who would represent the uniform well, in a fair manner to all. Do you? Those of you who are not racist- but not afraid to admit that some of your colleagues are racist- should be supporting your chief. By lashing out against him you are adopting a racist platform. In order for the institution to garnish any respect from me(and many others), those people who represent the uniform well need to start asking for accountability from their fellow officers. To me, this is what Cameron McLay did by brandishing that sign. Is that not painfully obvious?
