Since Ive lived here at the lake (going on 15 years), there have been a pair of loons stop here on their Spring migration every year. About 4 or 5 years ago something must have happened to one of them because ever since there has been only one loon. Ive always assumed the remaining loon was the male because I just figured a female would have found a new mate. Anyway I just noticed he had arrived this afternoon on his annual trek to wherever it is he goes, maybe Canada, if this is halfway. He is still alone, but it is reaffirming to see him again. He will float about in the middle of Round Lake resting and feeding for the long second leg of his trip for about a week. If I am lucky, we will have a foggy morning where he will serenade me with that ghostly, lonesome call of the loon.
