Since comments continue to disappear from the Camping/Retreat Division of the Missouri Annual Conference Facebook page, this is to clarify some information about the Wilderness Retreat and Development Center (WRDC) dining hall campaign. Hartsook, the fundraising consultant company, changed leaders three times while they were providing services for WRDC. Thus, the campaign never really got rolling. WRDC leadership and the dining hall campaign board decided to suspend the contract with Hartsook when they saw it was not working. Hartsook did not suspend the contract (it was WRDC leadership and said board), even though the administrator of Camping/Retreat Division of the Missouri Annual Conference Facebook page claims this. WRDC leadership and the dining hall board were told by a member of the Camping Board that the Camping Board would begin helping the dining hall fundraising beginning in fall 2014. WRDC did have multiple-year pledges from the fundraising that were still coming in as recent as September. In previous years, WRDC was quite successful in fundraising for various projects and improvements with no support from the conference. These projects include $300,000 for the pool, over $75,000 for the tree house village, and $1,500 for the chair lift in Rainbow Lodge. WRDC was also successful in raising the funds in the late 90s to build Spirit Lodge and Trinity Lodge. Two staff cabins, six covered shelters, two beach sheds, a prayer labyrinth, a lakeside worship area, an enclosed addition to the pool shelter house, and ten RV spots with sewer, water and electric hookups were all completed with volunteer labor and the funds were solely from WRDC to pay for the materials. #SaveMOUMcamps
