Since its Veterans Day, I ll share this. I was only 15 when I married Sherwin and the ways of the world were far from this little hillbilly girl. I was 16 when he was stationed in Plattsburgh NY. I had not been anywhere and it snowed the 1st day of Oct. and seemed like it never stopped.We played cards, made pizza and stayed home...or I did. So when the Christmas Party came I was a bit excited, but so shy. New yorkers couldnt understand a word I said and I couldnt understand them. Being the kid I was,I asked Sherwin what I was supposed to do. He took me to our table and told me to sit there,he was going to play music and he would be back. Well I hated it...then an elderly couple sat down with me,stuck a drink in my hand. One thing led to another and they talked like me and just was sooo back homey...after two drinks I was crying and telling them how awful the Air Force treated the men....wouldnt even let em go home for Christmas. Sherwin comes over and salutes the elderly man and says, Angel,meet my commanding Officer,Colonel Jorden! Aweeee whiter shades of pale for me! But Colonel Jorden says, She is such a delight,you know I am from West Virginia myself. Oh Thank God for saving grace . He and his wife came to check on me every week after that till we left New York!
