Since its been one of those political days here in FHP, I wanted - TopicsExpress

Since its been one of those political days here in FHP, I wanted to take the time to point something out. Ive noticed a lot of people throwing around terms like elitist and snobs to describe the administrators and other members who support the somewhat strict standards of this group. A LOT of the people who take their photography seriously, and put up amazing work here (admins included) do not keep any of the herps they find. We want to do our best to capture that moment in nature to later reflect upon for years to come. Something we can be proud of, to show our friends. We cant invite them over the check out our collection, so we try our best to make a piece of art frame worthy. And no, its not about money. I myself own a non professional camera and a lens Ive had for 10 years, thats it.. I dont know what to say when people come to this group saying they cant afford fancy photo gear, but on their personal page post up photos of racks filled with high end ball python morphs. For a lot of us, field herp photography is our MAIN hobby, and not simply a way of documenting and sharing what we find. We often take the extra effort to hike a backpack full of crap into the field, which makes flipping a huge inconvenience, slows us down, and pisses of our friends. You DO NOT have to be one of these people to participate here, just understand that is who this group is catered to, and try not to flood the group with a snap shot of every thing you found this year. HINT: If you took one or two photos of an animal and decided you were happy with it, it may be best posted elsewhere. If we could, we would change the group name to Advanced Field Herp photography or something a long those lines, but that is not an option once we reach a certain amount of members. Please continue to enjoy the environment we are trying to make here. If you feel this group is not for you, feel free to stick around and enjoy tons of great photography, maybe learn a thing or two...or if it suits you better, take your finds where you feel they will be more appreciated.
