Since most people likely do not understand me... I am NOT - TopicsExpress

Since most people likely do not understand me... I am NOT against cops. As someone who was active duty military, I have MANY friends that are, and were LEOs, all over the country. My grandfather was a detective in the 7th precinct in Nassau County Police Department. I am against police brutality and lack of accountability. I am against senseless death. In fact, I am against all violence, and make no exceptions, unless used in self defense, and the response is proportionate to the threat. In my opinion, to assume that someone who is against police brutality, is against all police, is no different than assuming that because I do not like a pile of shit on my pizza, that I dislike pizza... While I support good cops, and respect their sacrifice, and the courage it takes for them to go to work everyday, and have to stomach what they see, I also do not believe that a badge exempts them from the laws, unless they are on an emergency call. I think people are mad about the recent deaths of Eric Garner and Akai Gurley, at the hands of the police, as well as the growing number of videos of police violence, but it didnt start there. People see officers run stop signs, go the wrong way on one way streets, speed, and of course, briefly turn their emergency lights on to pass a red light, while quickly turning them off once through. These officers pull us over, and ticket us, for those very same offenses. These may seem like minor infractions, but psychologically speaking, it creates a character in peoples minds. The Do as I say, not as I do, character is one, that people do not like. The laws, politicians, and the media, all exacerbate the issue, and are collectively more responsible for the situation we are in, than the police. This has become a very divisive, political game, that is costing people their lives. Were all people, and we need to wake up, and stop letting politicians and media, exploit horrible atrocities, to manipulate us into turning on one another, and sacrificing rights, that SO MANY men and women died to secure and defend. We need to honor ALL of our nations heroes, past and present, and cannot do so, when opportunists like Patrick Lynch, go on television, and make ridiculous political statements, against Constitutionally protected activities, on behalf of all police. This man is the Al Sharpton, of police officers. DiBlasio failed as a mayor, on both leadership, and public relations, by not finding common ground between the police and the protestors, but Lynch failed by exploiting these officers deaths to further his own political agenda. The whole thing saddens me. We ALL need REAL leaders that unite people, not divide them. And again, my condolences to the families of ALL victims of senseless violence, everywhere. MLK said, and I agree with him, Injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere.
