Since the 30th May I have spent almost every day visiting my Dad - TopicsExpress

Since the 30th May I have spent almost every day visiting my Dad in Kings College Hospital where he was taken after suffering a heart attack at home with Mum. He was brought back to life by the ambulance service & then spent nearly three weeks sedated to give his body time to heal & repair. He was doing so well in his recovery & then a mistake took any chance of him coming home away. He spent Father’s day in hospital and his 69th Wedding Anniversary for which I was planning a surprise party for him & Mum. Two weeks ago today I lost my Dad after spending the last week being with him awake through the night – I really didnt want to leave him on his own & I still don’t. His funeral is on Friday 5th & I along with Mum & the rest of the family are arranging a different form of ‘celebration’ one for a life of a man who survived the 2nd WW, he is a hero, he is loved & he is massively missed. I couldnt have had a better Father – he never raised his voice, he didnt need to. He never spoke a bad word about anyone. His life lessons were intriguing. He was my living Encyclopedia, Dictionary & Thesaurus – the most intelligent man I know & he loved Mum with a passion. He always told us he was going to live forever & we believed him, he always kept his word. He also said he was going to live long enough to cause his children a nuisance. I told him he had caused enough and he could stop playing the joke now & come home – unfortunately, through no fault of his own, that wasnt to be. He most certainly fought hard to stay with us; I have never seen so much will power by one person to keep his word to those he loved. My heart is broken & I can’t really imagine what Mums must feel like or the rest of the family. I will say my last goodbyes to his earthly body this week and finally on Friday. Dad will be in my heart & my memories forever. I love you Dad and I am so very sorry I couldnt have done more for you. 31/12/1922 – 17/08/2014
