Since the death of about 67 South Africans who died at Prophet TB Joshuas Church, people have asked me what I make of it. My comment is informed by what Jesus said in a similar situation in Luke 13:1-5. When it was reported to Jesus what King Herord did when he mixed the blood of those who brought their sacrifices with their own blood, Jesus answered do not think that those who were killed were worse sinners than the rest. He then added, unless you repent, you will likewise parish. Jesus also answered them on another incident were 18 people were killed when a tower fell on them. He reiterated that those 18 were not worse off sinners than the rest but unless they themselves repented they also would parish. My answer is: the 67 people who died in Nigeria are no greater sinners than the rest of us. It is not for us to gloat about their misfortune but we must endeavour to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. My deepest sympathy goes out to the families that have lost their loved ones in this unfortunate tragedy. May their souls rest in peace. Its unbecoming and unchristian for Christians to gloat.
