Since the late 70’s, many Dyersburg residents have been able to call Mr. Larry White their “insurance agent.” Now with 2 divisions of “White and Associates,” nearly 400 people can call Mr. Larry their “employer.” In the 60s, the U-S Marine Corp called him “Sergeant.” Our country now calls him a “Vietnam Veteran” while the business department at U-T Martin calls him “graduate.” Today the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce calls him “chairman of the board,” as does First Citizens Bank. Over the years, Larry has repeatedly been called “board member” and “chairman” by organizations such as the Rotary Club, Dyersburg State, University of Tennessee, and Dyersburg Regional Hospital. So it’s easy to see why the local chamber of commerce has called him “Man of the Year” and other business owners call him a “mentor.” But, there’s even more to Larry’s “calling” in life. For decades, First United Methodist Church has been able to call him a “member,” “Sunday School teacher” and, of course, a “committee chairman.” There are over 100 Dyersburg State and U-T Martin students and graduates that call Mr. Larry their “scholarship sponsor.” When it’s time for annual fundraisers, The Rotary Club calls him their “griller” while the American Red Cross calls him their “server.” The Salvation Army calls him a “painter” and so many more call him “volunteer.” His 3 grandchildren simply call him “L.” But his business ethics, his countless volunteer hours, his love for his family and community are the reasons why Dyersburg High School and Davis Wealth Services call him a “Hometown Hero.”
