Since the new cruise pier is going to be duty free, apparently all - TopicsExpress

Since the new cruise pier is going to be duty free, apparently all vendors there will be exempt from paying import duty on the goods and food they sell. I have a A LOT of concerns and questions about this: 1. Will the stores and restaurants then only be open to cruise ship passengers and everything delivered to the boat directly in sealed bags (like an airport). Otherwise all businesses and restaurants in the BVI will be undermined by the pricing that this duty exemption brings. And will the restaurants only serve cruise passengers and be closed to the public? 2. How exactly is this cruise pier aiding the BVI financially other than helping the taxi drivers and few dozen businesses that are on premises. If they arent paying duty on the items brought in, thats a lot of lost revenue in taxes. Is there any revenue for anyone else? And is it our taxpaying money that is helping build this pier? 3. How is the Government going to control what is brought in duty free? If I have a restaurant at the cruise pier and a restaurant elsewhere, whats to stop me from using the duty free materials for both premises?
