Since the only thing standing between me and success now is a medical clearance (and since if I fail the medical clearance, I have much bigger problems anyway), now Ill say firmly that Im extending service for 13 months. Ill be done with PC in October 2015. Why 13 months, you ask? Well, if you stay for a full year, the Peace Corps kindly pays to send you home for 30 days, and those 30 days dont count as the year youre working. On the plus side, since I have a giant pile of vacation days I can add up to 15 of those for a total of 45 days at home. Now, this is still a long way off and is dependent largely on when flights are available, but VERY tentatively I expect to be home November 21 - January 2. What the hell will I be doing, you may further ask? I will be living and working in Cotonou as a PCV/intern with a group called Partners for Development. Specifically I will be coordinating with volunteers in the south regarding certain projects in the fields of food processing and market information. I will also be helping to design training materials for use all over Benin, and the less-glamorous but equally-important task of translating reports into English.
