Since the post about Annies caused such a stir, Id like to take a moment to clarify my stance on this. First, Annies is not clean. But that being said, I think they were one of the best, not-clean options out there. While they are certainly not something I buy regularly as a clean eater, I have had their products once or twice and I will say that the items I purchased seemed to be very good quality. While Annies is maintaining that they will remain the same product as always, I have a few things to say on that subject. First, they are now owned by General Mills. A corporation that has donated lots and lots of money to defeat GMO labeling (and they will continue to do so). So now, despite Annies being a company that stands FOR GMO labeling, their profits will go to fight it. And that is the biggest outcry I have read on their Facebook page thus far. Second, I also want to mention that Organic does not mean chemical/pesticide free. It means that specific chemicals/pesticides are not allowed. But that doesnt mean they are chemical/pesticide free. I think the word organic has taken on a meaning that it just cant support. Its still a better option, make no mistake. But its not chemical free. All this to say that while Annies is not a clean product, it was definitely one of the better choices out there for processed foods. And now that GM has their dirty hands on it, my guess is that the ingredient lists will start to change with little notice or fanfare. So slowly that most folks probably wont even notice. Its just a guess, but also a guess based on watching other companies sell out and change. Its a sad thing when money wins.
