Since the tragedy in Paris this past Wednesday, when a couple of Islamist assassins (it seems they were formerly small-time rapping wide-boys), stormed the offices of Paris-based weekly newspaper, Charlie Hebdo, I have not only been thinking about what happened in that brutal attack, but how very precious and vulnerable is our right to the free expression of ideas, thoughts and opinions. I wrote about it today (on nakedauthors). At first I wasnt going to pen something about the disaster - there are writers and artists far more articulate and politically savvy than me saying what needs to be said - but then I realized that anyone should feel free to express their thoughts and opinion on what has come to pass. Freedom of expression may be vulnerable, but individually and collectively we must demonstrate how ultimately strong it can be, how the voices of the people can and will overcome tyrants, assassins, brutal regimes and narrow-minded politicians of any stripe, to speak their truth. So, I said a few words today - just me, expressing my opinion. For what its worth. We should all be able to express ourselves in any way we choose. And its a tragedy when that right is taken away by the well-known tyrant, fear. nakedauthors
