Since this February I have lost a total of 76.8lbs, 375lbs to 298.2lbs. In the last 36 days I have lost almost a third of that total. This is due in part to a change in some regular monthly medication I take but also to my wife, Danielle Ker-St John, telling me not to be a pussy. When I was tired after a jog and didnt want to do it again anytime soon she would say dont be a pussy, when we rowed we were really sore but we still worked out everyday and twice a day. Now get out there! I think part of those motivating statements were also to give her some time in the house by herself while the kids slept to read her book without me bothering or interrupting her. Also, when I was training at HUA with Mark Breyer (and I will be back soon, its almost time) she would keep on my arse to get down there and get stronger. Though she usually followed that endorsement with like you used to be. Old man. Ive also had help from some friends, Dana Crowe, got me onto this app called MyFitnessPal over a month ago and it has really helped me by helping me realize the sheer number of carbs that I take in on a daily basis. The barcode reader on the app is also flawless. I have also been using the RunKeeper app and it works for walking and other activities. It also gives you updates over your music. Angela Bell Crowe and I have started to do 30 min aerobics. I have never thought highly of aerobics until I tried it. Does it ever let you know how out of shape you are. But do you ever feel good when its done. I think most of all my children have been my biggest motivational force, I want to be the best version of me for them that I can be. Also they are brutally honest and keep pointing out my big boobies at the most awkward social moments. And I think finally I am motivated by the realization that if I were born with immobilizing disabilities or a degenerative disease or was no long mobile due to a loss of or functioning limbs, I would look at me and others who are obese like me and be very disappointed in my behaviour. I think that I would think to myself, look at these people, what are they doing?!! Letting their bodies just go to waste, pumping them full of junk and not exercising them. If I had a fully functioning body I would not waste it, you only get one body. I guess thats just a matter of perspective, but it does nonetheless motivate me. Losing weight has been the hardest thing that I have ever done but it is also the best thing I have ever done for myself and my family. I still have a long way to go and also to keep the weight off. I post this as a statement that it can be done, you just have to find your motivating factor(s). Bruce Lee once said long term consistency trumps short term intensity and I believe this brutally true when it comes to making lifestyle changes. Good luck.
