Since we have had several post regarding LMS and the students - TopicsExpress

Since we have had several post regarding LMS and the students lunches, I would like to say something as an employee so maybe some people will understand. Please let me start by saying that I am just giving a heads up because I too have had kids in the middle school and as a first time for some parents dealing with snack foods, etc, it can get confusing. At LMS there are 3 different lunch lines. Two of the lines serve regular lunches. A child can pay cash, use their account or charge one lunch in either of these lines. They are offered the monthly meals in one line and in the other they are offered sub sandwiches, baked potatoes, fajita and bean soft tacos, fruit and vegetables, etc. The third line is the Snack Bar. This is an A La Carte line. The kids must have money in their accounts or cash in hand. There is no charging. Let me stress....this is just an option. The kids do not have to eat in this line. It serves chicken sandwiches, fries, cheese sticks, corn dogs, and a variety of other fast food sort of items. Unless the student has a flag (note) on their lunch accounts that they may not purchase snacks, etc and they have money, they are allowed to eat in this line. As a parent, I had to limit my kids because yes, it can be very expensive. There is also a price list posted where the kids order. They know how much things cost. As an employee I can say that we try and make sure the kids take full meals from the other 2 lines so that there is a price break for lack of a better term. If they do not take the full meal, they are charged a la carte prices....for instance if they get a sandwich we try and have them take a fruit or vegetable too so that its cheaper than just a sandwich which will be charged as a la carte. Parents need to understand that even though we love and adore our kids, when they are not with us they tend to do what they want. MANY students simply say I dont care. Its my parents money or something similar. Again....Im posting this so that maybe I can clear up some of the confusion. If your kids are spending way more money at lunch than you want, it isnt necessarily because they arent offered any other options.
