Since wednesdayI have had a rough few days... and a beautiful few days. If you dont know, my parents were on their way to Salt Lake for my moms surgery and Kanina, their four legged family member of 13 years, passed away in my moms arms. They went back to Malad and buried her then back to SL to prepare for my moms surgery at 6 am the next day. We just got my mom into her scheduled 8 hr back surgery at the Univ of Utah hospital and my father all of a sudden got very sick. We rushed him to the VA hospital ER room and later that day he was admitted to the VA. Fast forward to today.... I am in gratitude for having the opportunity to be in service of my parents and show up for them like they have shown up for us kids and our kids for so many years. To spend 24 hr shifts with mom in the hospital caring for her, sending her love and healing throughout the night, singing softly to her and holding her hand during the pain. Being there when dad calls mom and they have face time and can see each other in the different hospitals and listen as they speak loving words to each other and throw a kiss to each other over the phone before they hang up. They are both in pain, can barely talk but they say I love you and throw a kiss. Tender moments. Working in partnership with my sisters as we take 24 hr shifts with mom and dad caring for them in the hospital so they know of our love. My parents have been an example of service to others, love, love of family, commitment, an example of how to create unity in communities through friendship and fellowshipping. They are an example of integrity, honesty and being their word. If they are asked to assist someone, no matter what they will show up and assist. They have never been rich with money but they always show up for others. They are the hardest working couple I have ever known. Even now, they work their garden, the orchard of fruit trees and 400 ft of raspberries and make jam and sell it to pay for their gas for the dr appointments. Ask them to cook for a Luau and they will be right there too and it is the best food anywhere. I know this is long... my mom is doing great. Still a lot of pain, but she is pushing through the pain. Her kidneys and blood pressure are also reacting to the love we are sending it. My dad got the tube out of his stomach and had water today. If no problems, he will get soft food tomorrow and then regular diet and may be out monday or tuesday. Then he will be able to go to the hospital and be with mom. I love my parents and am grateful for every day I have with them.
