Since weve been talking about the military here regarding the spending of Federal money, heres another question. I am ok with a Colonel being paid more than a Captain or a Corporal (though Im not sure why), but why should any former soldier be paid a higher pension than any other, whatever his rank or job in uniform? Why should not every former serviceman or woman get the same pension (and enough to live on)? Likewise, what about reserve promotions? I know guys I flew with who have not had one day more combat experience, skill, or knowledge than the day they left active duty as 1st LTs who as REMF reservists have been promoted on the clock and now are given pensions as LtCols. Why? Why should any reservist be promoted beyond the rank and pay grade he last held on active duty? Worse, if called up as reserve, why should they be given high command when they know nothing more than they did back in the days when warfare was so different than now?
