Since when did choosing sides become a part of literature? I speak - TopicsExpress

Since when did choosing sides become a part of literature? I speak for no one other than myself on here. We as Authors? We look bad. We look really bad in the eyes of many readers right now. The atmosphere under which books are being published has a bad vibe. The industry is real tense right now and the animosity floating around is dragging the genre down. I call for an end to the conflict. I dont care where you stand, what you read, whose side youre on or what you do with your free time, all I care about is a craft that I love dearly being turned into a street corner, becoming a place for book wars, that if kept on the same track, will definitely end badly for someone. Only then will someone say enough. Only then will we get back to the main task at hand, which is telling quality stories in our own individual voices. Some may say, well Im just reacting to what was being said about me. Understandable; but Im sure Im not the only one that recognizes the mounting tension in this industry. The same terminology thats being used on the streets is carrying over to this industry. We all write books. This is a business of storytelling and we carrying on like a bunch of unprofessionals. Only us. We do it to ourselves over and over again. Willingly giving up our gold for lumps of coal. Its a way to handle disputes. Every business has issues to deal with; but I dont see Coke and Pepsi firing shots at one another on Facebook and then Budweiser jumping in followed by Miller Brewing Company. Professional people, mature, intelligent people sit down and discuss matters, establish boundaries and adhere to them. I think some have mistaken writing for a quick hustle. Very few get rich, most do it for the love, myself included. And when I see something I love being violated, I call foul. Had to get this here off my mind. Many Authors are above the fray, but it doesnt mean that what is going on in the industry at present is going unnoticed. We really have to take a look at ourselves and realize what were doing to our genre. This is an in-house problem. So if were to get derailed or become a sideshow act to other genres and not taken seriously? We can only blame ourselves for the consequences. JMO. Good morning, everyone.
